Hello brave adventurers! Welcome to Obsidian Portal, where we can schedule and manage the upcoming 5th Edition Campaign!

Once we’ve confirmed rolls (we can do that over Skype or in person if you want to drop by for some beer and a roll-up session), you can get a faster take on your character with this online character sheet generator — though, I’m new to it too, so I don’t know if it is 100% or how to fix any issues. A few points on Characters:
- While Tieflings & Dragonborn are in the new rules, I’m barring those as PCs for now.
- As much as I’ve enjoyed playing typical Monster characters…we’ll save that for later.
- Humans are using the “variant” rule. Instead of +1 to all stats (weird, I think), use the check box that gives you +1 to two stats and an extra skill and extra feat.
- Please read chapter 4 of the “free rules” in the Players Hand Book (PHB), your background, bonds and ideals are important in the game as A) I encourage role playing and creativity over min/max stats and combat B) they help the characters progression and C) it will help you write your BACKGROUND STORY before you start.

Where the hell are we? Well, the adventure will take part in the Forgotten Realms setting. I’m not saying where yet, or why that does not matter to your character, but it could help if you are writing stories or creating backgrounds. More on the FR world setting can be found here: http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Forgotten_Realms (Wiki) or in the upcoming “official guide.” (Look, it’s been around for over 20 years…it’s out there, there are no mistakes anyway.)

BACKGROUND STORIES! Using your above-mentioned “Chapter 4” bonds, ideals and flaws, I request that you write up your stories background. As a level one character, you’ve just crossed the realm into becoming an adventurer. That fantastic being that is now outside the realm of the normal/everyday and seeks to fulfill a higher purpose. You are a rookie pro-athlete if you want to look at it that way. Exceptional, but this is your first day in the minor leagues. How did you get there? What made you choose your class (or did you have a choice?) What is most important to you? Where did you come from? What are your goals/motivations/fears? All of this helps make your character for the stage that is a game of D&D. Well written is not a requirement, but creativity and sincerity is. One paragraph is the minimum, one page the maximum. Experience points doled out for your efforts (accordingly.)
